Early in 2023 a critical security threat was discovered in the MOVEit Transfer file transfer software that enables attackers to steal data from organizations. To date it is estimated that the ransomware gang behind the attack, Clop, could make up to $100m from the incident. MOVEit is a classic example of a software supply chain attack where attackers exploit a third-party system to gain access to bigger fish.
